City Employee

Easton, NJ: (Jan-14-08) Joseph Welsh, a former city employee, and his wife, Sharon Davis, brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city of Easton, alleging that the city violated Welsh's First and 14th Amendment rights in December 2005. The suit stated that Welsh was terminated because he opposed racial and gender discrimination in city hall. The plaintiff's legal counsel claimed that Welsh, who is white, tried to bring the alleged discriminatory practices to the attention of the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission and the city solicitor. The judgment sought lost wages, future wages, attorney fees and infliction of emotional distress.

Records show that the suit named Chief of Staff Stuart Gallaher, Treasurer David Fleck, Controller Robert Willever, Revenue Agent Howard White, Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Controller Linda Male, Councilwoman Sandra Vulcano, former Mayor Mike McFadden, former council members Tim Pickel, Burns Bamford, Dan Corpora and Michael Fleck and Kenneth Snyder, a retired city employee who the lawsuit lists as a close associate of Bamford and Male, as defendants. As part of a settlement reached, the city agreed to resolve the lawsuit with a $250,000 payout. [EXPRESS TIMES: CITY EMPLOYEE FIRED]
