Employee Discrimination

Dallas, TX: (Jan-09-08) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought a lawsuit against the Arlington branch of Terminix International Co., alleging that the company racially discriminated and retaliated against its employees. The suit claimed that Terminix denied promotion to the position of Pest Control Service Technician to three African-American males in spite of their full qualification for the job. At the same time, Terminix promoted individuals who lacked the state-required certification and who were less qualified. Further, the agency stated that Terminix retaliated against one of the men by firing him when he opposed the discrimination. As part of a settlement reached, Terminix International Co. agreed to pay $95,000 to resolve allegations. [DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL: RACIAL BIAS]
