Soldier Accidental Death

Niles, IL: (Nov-26-07) The family of Lt. Col. Dominic Baragona, a Niles native, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the US Government, after Baragona was killed in Iraq. The suit stated that Baragona was on his way home from Iraq when the Humvee in which he was riding was stuck by a truck owned by Kuwait Gulf Link Transport Co., which has contracts with the Defense Department worth tens of millions of dollars. The family claimed that they wanted the Pentagon to stop doing business with the Kuwait trucking company, alleging that the company is responsible for the accident that killed the soldier. Records show that the wrongful death lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for Northern Georgia, and stated that the driver of the truck failed to see a pile of debris in time. When he tried to avoid it, his truck jackknifed and hit the Humvee. Baragona, who had tire tracks on his Kevlar vest, was pronounced dead at the scene. As part of a settlement reached, sources confirmed that the family has received a $5 million settlement. [TRIBUNE CHRONICLE: SOLDIER DEATH]
