VoIP Patent

New York, NY: (Nov-19-07) Verizon Wireless brought charges against Vonage over patents that Verizon owned relating to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calling. As part of a settlement reached, a judge ordered Vonage to pay $120 million in damages to Verizon. Vonage appealed the verdict. In a recent development in the case, the US Court of Appeals turned down Vonage's application, ordering the implementation of the earlier settlement. Under the settlement, Vonage will pay $117.5 million to Verizon and another £2.5 million to charity. This settlement follows another patent settlement with Sprint, where Vonage shelled out $80 million. [DIGITAL TRENDS: VOIP PATENT]
