Teenaged Football Player

Hollywood, FL: (Oct-18-07) The family of 15-year-old Edwin Gordon, a football player, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the youth football league and team, after Gordon died in Hollywood in 2004. The suit stated that Gordon died after trying to tackle another player. His autopsy suggested that an undetected heart condition and hits to the neck and chest from the missed tackle likely killed him. The lawsuit alleged that South Florida Youth Football League officials and Washington Park Buccaneers coaches were negligent in dealing with the situation and that they did nothing to save their son before paramedics arrived. As part of a settlement reached, the family reached a deal with the defendants. Terms of the agreement were not made public, though it is known that the league's coaches have undergone CPR and first aid training since the 2004 incident. [NBC NEWS: FATAL FOOTBALL]
