Fired Police Officer

New Sewickley Township, PA: (Oct-04-07) Dale Young, a longtime New Sewickley police officer, brought charges against the township, alleging that he was wrongly fired from his post. The former board of supervisors fired Young on July 3, 2001, after hearing testimony from four police officers that Young had threatened them and defied a direct order from the assistant chief while in uniform and on duty. Young had served as a New Sewickley officer since 1973. Young appealed the firing, but a Beaver County judge in December 2001 ruled the township was correct to fire Young based on his conduct. In a settlement reached, the township's insurance company has reached a tentative $15,000 settlement with Dale Young. Town officials claim that the town's insurance carrier will cover the settlement.
