Unlicensed Software

Miami, FL: (Oct-03-07) The Business Software Alliance (BSA) brought charges against two Florida-based companies, Miami based J&B Importers and Tampa based Media Lab Ventures LLC, alleging that they had unlicensed software on their computers. The crack down was part of a state wide investigation. Florida consistently ranks in the top 10 in dollars recovered by BSA for the use of unlicensed software, nearly $8.4 million since the beginning of the program in 1993. The state currently accounts for nearly 6% of total BSA settlements. As part of settlement reached, the two companies agreed to a $225,000 payout to resolve the allegations. J&B Importers agreed to pay $100,000 to the trade group that represents software makers to settle claims that it had unlicensed copies of Adobe, Microsoft and Symantec software. Media Lab Ventures agreed to pay $125,000 to settle claims that it had unlicensed copies of Adobe, AutoDesk and Microsoft software. [SOUTH FLORIDA BUSINESS JOURNALS: UNLICENSED SOFTWARE]
