Stolen Idea

Tarrytown, NY: (Sep-26-07) Emisphere Technologies Inc., a Biotechnology company, brought a lawsuit against Eli Lilly and Co. The lawsuit alleged that Eli Lilly, a leading innovation-driven pharmaceutical corporation, tried to swipe Emispher's best idea, a drug carrier compound worth millions or maybe billions of dollars. In 2006, a federal court ordered ruled that Eli Lilly breached a development agreement between the companies by using Emisphere technology for research beyond the scope of their cooperation.

In a settlement reached, Emisphere Technologies accepted $18 million from Eli Lilly and Co. for the pending lawsuit. Terms of the settlement are confidential. Emisphere, which concentrates on developing an oral version of injectible drugs, ended the relationship with Eli Lilly in 2004. [FORBES: STOLEN IDEA]
