Westport, CT: (Sep-06-07) The family of a girl who claimed she had been fondled by her art teacher at a Westport school in 2003, filed a lawsuit against in Norwalk Superior Court against the town of Westport, its school board, Superintendent Elliott Landon, Paul Held, and the principal and vice principal of the school. Held, who taught art at Bedford Middle School, was sentenced in August 2007 in a separate case to more than 10 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. Held retired from the Westport Public Schools after being suspended with pay in 2002 when the girl whose family sued and another sixth-grade girl reported he touched them inappropriately. A state Department of Children and Families investigation could not substantiate the complaints of the two girls and a jury in 2003 acquitted Held after a trial involving only the allegations of the girl whose family sued. In a settlement reached, the family accepted the $150,000 payout from the school. [NEWSDAY: STUDENT FONDLING]
