Portland School District

Portland, OH: (Aug-29-07) In a settlement reached between the Portland School District and Superintendent Mary Jo O'Connor, the Portland School Committee accepted O'Connor's resignation, while agreeing to pay her $80,000. Further, as part of the settlement agreement reached in a closed-door executive session, school officials approved of giving O'Connor two months pay and the sick and vacation time she has accrued. In a written statement provided by her lawyer, O'Connor says she bears the final administrative responsibility for the multi-million dollar budget deficit. O'Connor will stay with the department until December 28, 2007. In the meantime the School Committee hopes to bring in a replacement. Sources stated that for weeks O'Connor refused to resign, but then had a change of heart. While not all the members are happy with the settlement, they say it is the right decision for O'Connor and for the School Department. [WCSH NEWS: SUPERINTENDENT RESIGNATION]
