Edgerton Fire Protection District

Edgerton, WI: (Aug-23-07) Three former employees, Arnie Lund, Ken Crandall, and Mark Backes, brought charges against the Edgerton Fire Protection District, alleging that they were wrongfully fired. The firefighters were fired in 2003, but a Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission ruling ordered them reinstated with back pay. An appeals court upheld the decision Aug. 16, 2007. According to the ruling, the district could owe the firefighters more than $700,000 in back pay, benefits and interest, said Patrick Kilbane, union representative for the firefighters. The settlement was reached after the district board voted unanimously to direct the fire district's attorney to request a monetary settlement with the firefighters after two hours in closed session.
