Cleveland, OH

This is a settlement for the Car Accidents (National) lawsuit.

Cleveland, OH: (Jul-19-07) The Frank family filed a civil lawsuit against the city, after a fiery three-car crash in Cleveland left Katherine Frank paralyzed and her parents severely injured. The crash happened in November 1999, when Katherine, along with her parents, Glenn and Charlotte, were waiting at a stoplight at West 98th Street and Lorain Avenue when a truck slammed into the rear of their Nissan Maxima. Their car then struck another vehicle and burst into flames. Katherine Frank was paralyzed from the waist down. In 2001, the Franks received nearly $800,000 in a civil settlement connected to the crash.

In another lawsuit pending settlement, the Frank family has accused their lawyer David Mazanec, 60, of stealing more than $430,000 of their settlement money. The suit claims Mazanec took $434,207 from trust accounts set up for the three crash victims by making repeated unauthorized withdrawals. FBI investigators found that Mazanec in one instance transferred $92,000 from Katherine Frank's trust fund into his personal account at Huntington Bank. When the trust fund was too low, Mazanec shifted funds from one account to another in order to mask his scheme. [PLAIN DEALER: THREE CAR CRASH]
