Maui, HI

Maui, HI: (Jul-11-07) The family of Kevin Oakley, 41, of Sun Valley, CA, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the federal government, after he drowned at Maui's Pools of 'Ohe'o, commonly known as Seven Sacred Pools. Oakley drowned August 18, 2003 after he rescued his 7-year-old son, who had been swept away by a hidden current. His death was the fourth in two years in the vicinity of the popular East Maui tourist destination. In a settlement reached, the family will receive $2 million from the federal government. Further, as part of the settlement, the National Park Service will monitor stream flows and install life buoys and other safety equipment at the pools. [HONOLULU ADVERTISER: POOL DROWNING]
