Fresno State

Fresno, CA: (Jul-10-07) Former volleyball coach Lindy Vivas filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against California State University, Fresno, commonly referred to as Fresno State. Though the school did not agree to any of the allegations, the jury chose to be more responsive to Vivas' explanation for why the school dismissed her after 14 seasons. Jurors believed Vivas did a good job coaching and the school retaliated against her for supporting Title IX, the federal gender-equity mandate Fresno State bungled for years. In a settlement reached, Vivas was awarded $5.85 million in lost wages and damages in her gender discrimination suit against the school. [FRESNO BEE: GENDER EQUALITY]
