St. Jude Medical Inc.

Minneapolis, MN: (Jul-02-07) Mirowski Family Ventures LLC filed a patent infringement lawsuit against St. Jude Medical Inc., alleging that the medical company infringed certain patents in Mirowski's portfolio. The lawsuit was part of a broader litigation between Guidant Corp., now part of Boston Scientific and St. Jude.

In a settlement reached, St. Jude Medical Inc. said it will pay Mirowski Family Ventures $35 million to resolve allegations. St. Jude will recognize the $35 million settlement as a special charge during the second quarter. In July 2006, St. Jude and Boston Scientific settled several patent disputes over technology used in implantable defibrillators. The agreement included a payment of just under $3 million, with no admission of wrongdoing. The company will also enter into a three-year corporate integrity agreement that applies only to Advanced Neuromodulation. [FORBES: PATENT INFRINGEMENT]
