The Colony Apartment

Miami, FL: (May-22-07) Bryan Pata was murdered at his home at The Colony Apartment in Kendall at about 7:15 pm on November 7, 2006. The former University of Miami defensive lineman, returned home, parked in his designated space and walked toward the steps leading to his second-story apartment when he was shot and killed. Negligent security charges against the apartment building owner claimed that the gate next to his parking space was left open until 10 pm, and no security guard was on duty until 10 pm. They had advertised 24-hour security, yet did not provide it. In a settlement reached, hours before the case was scheduled to go into trial as a full blown lawsuit, the insurance companies of the apartment where Pata lived, agreed to pay a $2 million settlement to his parents, Jeanette and Pierre. Jeanette Pata juggled two jobs as a maid at local hotels to support her nine children. [FOX SPORTS: FOOTBALL PLAYER SHOT]
