Super Steel
Glenville, NY: (Apr-24-07) A racial discrimination lawsuit filed against train locomotives maker, Super Steel Schenectady, by 13 plaintiffs, claimed that the company had allowed blatant racial harassment and segregation in the workplace. The suit alleged that one of the black employees, Criss Murphy, had to call the police when he opened his locker to discover a toy monkey hanging from a noose and threatening graffiti that mentioned the Ku Klux Klan. Super Steel, without admitting any wrongdoing, agreed to settle the case brought by the black former employees by paying Murphy and former coworker Norman Jordan, $250,000 each. Seven other workers will receive $75,000. Two more will be paid $35,000, and another two will receive $25,000, as per their complaints. Super Steel will also set aside $105,000 to settle future claims. The plaintiffs' attorneys will receive an additional $444,000.
