Denver, CO

Denver, CO: (Apr-17-07) Leonard Trujillo, a suspected shoplifter, filed suit against the city after he was run over twice by a Denver policeman chasing him in his patrol car. Trujillo allegedly stole beef jerky from a convenience store near Evans Avenue and Zuni Street. When the clerk locked the doors to prevent him from escaping, Trujillo kicked out the glass door and ran toward Zuni Street. Officer Gary Hise, who was pursuing Trujillo, finally ran the vehicle into him and pinned him beneath the patrol car until a tow truck arrived. Trujillo suffered severe injuries and sued the city in District Court. In a settlement reached, the City Council approved a $30,000 settlement with Trujillo.
