Bear Valley School District

Big Bear Lake, CA: (Mar-26-07) The Bear Valley Education Association filed suit against the school district accusing them of not raising their salary in proportion to years of service. In a settlement reached, the school district agreed to grant teachers, psychologists, nurses and counselors a 5 percent salary increase for 2006-07, effective February 1, and another 5 percent increase for next school year, effective July 1. While the agreement included no salary increase for current employees for 2005-06, it did compress the salary schedule. Now, the maximum of about $82,500 can be reached in 27 years rather than 35 years, and additional salary boosts come every three years rather than every five years after 15 years of service on two of the salary columns. The raises will cost the district an estimated $700,000. [PRESS ENTERPRISE: SALARY SCHEDULE]
