Modesto, CA

Modesto, CA: (Mar-19-07) Three city employees, Karin Rodriguez, Jocelyn Reed and Debra Eggerman, filed suit against the City of Modesto, claiming that they were sexually discriminated against, harassed, and retaliated against. The women complained they were denied promotions and pay equal to their male counterpart, which was a violation of California state law, and were part of a workplace that was hostile to women. When they reported the problems to city officials, the city did nothing to stop the discrimination and harassment and instead retaliated against them. In a settlement reached, the city agreed to pay the three $3.25 million to settle charges and avoid a protracted lawsuit. [SACRAMENTO BUSINESS JOURNAL: EMPLOYEE HARASSMENT]
