Orange County, CA

Santa Barbara, CA: (Mar-02-07) A wrongful death lawsuit was filed by an Orlando civil rights activist against the Orange County Sheriff's Office after the death of Frantz and Carole Leandre. The couple was struck and killed May 15, 2005 by a teenager in a stolen pickup truck that was fleeing from deputies from the sheriff's department. Though not awarding the activist a penny of the settlement amount, the Orange County Sheriff's Office agreed to pay Rose Frantz Leandre, 12, and her brother Peter, 6, at least $1 million each from annuities set up in their names.
