Kansas City

Kansas City, MO: Aviation director Russell Widmar filed a federal lawsuit against the city after he was fired in November of 2003 by City Manager Wayne Cauthen. Widmar claimed in the lawsuit that the termination was racially motivated. Widmar, who is white, claimed local African American leaders pressured city officials to fire him and alleged the pressure stemmed from his handling of a news and gift shop contract at Kansas City International Airport in late 2001. Kansas City is set to approve an $85,000 settlement. (Nov-01-06) [KANSAS CITY STAR: RACIAL DISCRIMINATION]
