MEGA Brands Inc.

Seattle, WA: A lawsuit was filed on behalf of 14 families of young children who were injured by Magnetix building sets. The toy contained tiny magnets that were dangerous if swallowed. Toddler, Kenny Sweet, died after swallowing magnets that created a blockage in his small intestine. Four-year-old Kyle Booke had a portion of his intestine removed, and 3-year-old Marcell McNeil had surgery to repair holes in his stomach, intestine and colon. Eleven other children from across the country were included in the case. MEGA Brands toy manufacturer will pay $13.5 million to the 14 families. MEGA Brands offered a voluntary recall and replacement program and put a warning on the toy packaging. (Oct-26-06) [SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER: MAGNETIX INJURIES]
