State of Wisconsin

Wisconsin - Joseph Bauschek was 34 when University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee police officer Brian Switala shot him seven times after a car chase. The fatal shot went through the back of the driver's seat. Bauschek's mother, Helen Bauschek, was his only close relative and the representative of his estate. Milwaukee County District Attorney Michael McCann did not charge Switala with second-degree intentional homicide, but the state of Wisconsin will pay $90,000 to settle the civil case. Helen Bauschek died before the case was resolved so the money will go toward a scholarship in her son's name at her alma mater, Marquette University. (Sep-13-06) [JOURNAL SENTINEL]
