Yankee Gas, City of Derby, Derby Housing Authority and Richard Kastens

A 25-year-old woman and two of her young children died in a 1991 row house fire in Derby, Connecticut. Ade Jordan managed to escape the burning building but returned to rescue 4-year-old Alicia and 3-year-old Justin. All three died of smoke inhalation. A settlement has been reached in four wrongful death lawsuits and the heirs of Ade Jordan have been awarded $11.4 million. The settlement amounts include $8.5 million from Yankee Gas, $2 million from the city of Derby, $400,000 from the Derby Housing Authority, and $431,500 from Richard Kastens, the landlord of the row house.
