University of Missouri

In 2003, the University of Missouri (UMR) eliminated its men's golf program and Louis Ray Leuellyn lost his job as golf coach. A month later, Leuellyn's job as assistant golf shop manager was also terminated. Leuellyn had been the men's golf coach since 1996 and assistant golf shop manager since 1992. Leuellyn, who is black, filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and claimed that the university retaliated against him. The UMR agreed to pay Leuellyn $125,000 to settle the lawsuit.
