Chalk Ocean Airways

Twenty passengers and crew were killed in a seaplane crash in December 2005 on their way to Bimini, Bahamas. The Fort Lauderdale-based airline's 58-year-old Grumman G-73T Turbo Mallard crashed off the coast of Miami Beach shortly after take-off when its right wing broke. Relatives of the passengers and crew have tentatively settled with Chalk Ocean Airways for $51 million. The airline is under investigation by The National Transportation Safety Board to determine whether it had adequate inspections and maintenance. (Jul-01-06)[ORLANDO SENTINEL]
