Delmon Young

In April 2006, Umpire Rick Cacciatore was hit with a baseball bat thrown by minor-leaguer Delmon Young in at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I., during a game between the Durham Bulls and Pawtucket Red Sox. According to Cacciatore, he called Young out on strikes in the top of the first inning with nobody out and runners on first and second. Cacciatore tried to send Young back to the dugout following the strikeout. Instead, Young swore at him, Cacciatore turned around and Young threw a bat at the umpire, hitting his arm and chest. A settlement was reached that will provide equipment and other materials to Waltham High's baseball team, as well as the city's Little League and Babe Ruth League. (Jun-16-06) [DAILY NEWS TRIBUNE]
