Village of Maywood

In June 2004, 24-year-old George Caithamer was being held at the village jail for a traffic violation. He was put in a cell with a known violent offender. Caithamer was beaten and told to strip by the other inmate in the village jail. The 20 minute assault was caught and recorded on a surveillance camera in the holding cell. Caithamer filed a lawsuit against the village claiming police took too long to help him. The village of Maywood has agreed to pay Caithamer a $750,000 settlement for his injuries.
