Westmead Children's Hospital

In February 2001, Kim Carpenter took her son Joshua to the hospital with breathing problems. A tracheotomy was preformed, but during the procedure Joshua's breathing tube dislodged and his brain was starved of oxygen. He suffered brain damage and spastic cerebral palsy and was rendered blind. Joshua died on March 7, 2005. His mother filed a lawsuit against the Westmead Children's Hospital in the New South Wales Supreme Court for negligence. She was seeking $1.1 million, but the terms of the settlement were undisclosed. (Nov-29-05) [THE AUSTRALIAN]
