On September 5, 2003 an axle came loose on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride. Twenty two year old Marcolo Torres was in the first passenger car which jackknifed and slammed into the lead car. Torres suffered severe blunt force trauma and extensive internal bleeding. His family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the theme park. Disney accepted responsibility for incorrectly performing maintenance on the roller coaster, but the terms of the settlement were confidential. (Dec-04-05) [DAILY BREEZE]
