In September 1999, Dustin Drake was in the fifth grade at Cedar Valley Elementary School in Covington. Young Dustin was using an elastic exercising device in one of his elementary classes when it snapped back and hit him in the face. He was permanently blinded in his left eye after three surgeries failed to restore Dustin's vision. Mr. and Ms. Drake filed a lawsuit on behalf of their autistic son and were awarded a $500,000 settlement. (Nov-02-05) [KING COUNTY JOURNAL]
