Prairie House Living Center

Frances Chiddix had a history of stroke and dementia that can cause swallowing problems. In March 2003 the 65 year old former nurse and Medicaid patient died after choking on a piece of brisket. A lawsuit was filed against the living center and two business men claiming they failed in their governing capacities to ensure that Prairie House had sufficient staff to implement policies regarding the management and operation of the facility. The lawsuit also alleged the Prairie House was negligent on the part of the nursing home staff, including lack of supervision of Mrs. Chiddix while she ate. A $700,000 cash settlement has been approved for actual damages for physical injuries and physical sickness. (Oct-28-05) [PLAIN VIEW DAILY HERALD]
