Akzo Nobel's human healthcare business, Organon, and Duramed Pharmaceuticals, Inc.'s subsidiary company were trying to settle a patent litigation regarding a generic version of Mircette oral contraceptive. Under the proposed settlement, Barr will pay Organon $142 million to acquire all rights relating to Mircette and pay $13.75 million to Saviant Pharmaceuticals, Inc., owner of the patent covering Mircette.
