A jury has awarded $105,000 to a Hempstead, New York woman who had a cockroach crawl into her ear in December 1998. The suit was filed by Marta Velasquez, 46, against the landlords of her apartment, Jose and Natalia Chavez. Velasquez had complained to her landlords, yet nothing was done about the problem, and the apartment was soon infested. Within a few weeks of having the bug removed by a doctor, Velasquez started to experience medical problems including head pain, dizziness and loss of hearing. (Jul-12-03)
