Pittsburgh Mother Joins Lawsuit After her Teenage Daughter Suffers Yaz Side Effects

. By Charles Benson

Bayer Pharmaceuticals is facing yet another lawsuit charging that the medical provider misrepresented the risks of Yaz side effects, nearly resulting in the death of a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl.

Katie Kraus had been taking Yaz birth control pills for six months when the teenager began suffering heart problems, including multiple instances of cardiac arrest that resulted in several hospitalizations and an emergency surgery to remove blood clots from the girl's pulmonary arteries.

Kraus' mother has taken action against the pill's manufacturers, claiming that the side effects of the common medications are potentially 10 to 100 times more likely to occur than the company currently advertises.

"I just don't want anybody else to see their child go through anything like this ever again," Kraus tells thePittsburghChannel.com.

The popular oral contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin have been the subject of much litigation in recent years due to their reported implication in cases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolisms, gallbladder complications, stroke, heart attack and death.
