Two people died in a Texas car crash on Monday afternoon on Interstate 45 in Leon County, according to the local news.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a Honda four-door was slowly heading northbound on I-45 just north of Centerville when a 2006 Dodge pickup collided with the back of the sedan, sending both vehicles into the median.

Mary Merrill, a 64-year-old Kansas woman, and Cecelia Milleman, a 63-year-old from Dallas, were pronounced dead at the scene. Merill had been riding in the truck, while Milleman was in the car.

KWTX.com reports that three others suffered minor injuries in the collision, including a three-year-old girl. All passengers were said to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.

The exact cause of the collision is unknown at this time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that there were roughly 3,382 fatalities resulting from car accidents in the Lone Star State in 2008 alone.
