School Bus Accident Kills 10-Year-Old Girl

A school bus accident Friday morning on a highway in rural Mississippi has left a 10-year old girl dead and 10 others injured. Jon Kalahar, from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety confirmed that the young girl died about 7:20 am Friday.

Sgt Ben William of the Mississippi Highway patrol told NBC News.com that the injured were taken to three area hospitals.

This is the second fatal accident involving a school bus and a tractor trailer in the region this year. The first, a head-on collision between a semi and a school bus on Mississippi Highway 8, took place in February and resulted in the deaths of a truck driver and a teacher.

Friday's bus accident happened at a intersection of US Highway 61 in Bolivar County and Mississippi Highway 450.The bus has been identified as belonging to the Shaw School District, and was reportedly carrying children ranging from kindergarten to high school. No identities have been made public as yet.
