A search is underway in the Gulf of Mexico for a Carnival Cruise Lines passenger who is believed to have fallen overboard Monday night.

The passenger, who was traveling on Carnival's "Holiday", is believed to have gone overboard at about 10:30 pm US Central Time, and a crew member reported hearing a loud splash.

The cruise ship was en-route from Mobile, AB to Cozumel, Mexico when the incident occurred. The ship was stopped, which was about one third of the way to Cozumel, and passengers ordered to their cabins for a head count, as soon as the incident was reported.

A life preserver was thrown overboard and two search boats launched from the ship, however so far no one has been found.

Another report of a passenger falling overboard from a Carnival Cruise Line's ship was reported on Monday. The ship was near Tampa, FL, when the passenger reportedly climbed a railing to get a better view of the scenery, and slipped. He was later rescued, having been found clinging to a sea bouy, and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
