Missouri Event Labor Provider Fined for Overtime Pay Violations

Klance Staging Inc., a provider of labor for events in the entertainment industry, recently paid more than $12,000 in restitution to 51 workers for violating overtime pay laws, according to the Missouri Labor Department's Division of Labor Standards.

The St. Louis Business Journal reports that after conducting an investigation, the state agency discovered that the firm had not paid the overtime that was required by state law when employees work more than 40 hours during a seven-day work week.

Linn Vogt, Klance's president, told the news provider that the lack of overtime pay was a result of a bookkeeping "oversight."

According to the news source, the Labor Department's Division of Labor Standards received 732 wage complaints during fiscal 2010 and collected nearly $200,000 in restitution from the 147 violations found.

Klance Staging, which provides workers for a host of different events, was established in 1991 and is headquartered in Pacific, Missouri, according to the company's Web site.
