Teenage Girl Killed in Missouri Accident

A teenage girl from Aurora died in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon. Seventeen-year old Shelby Estep was killed when her 2008 Chevrolet HHR collided with a tractor-trailer on US 71 south of Sheldon, MO.

According to State Troopers, the young girl was traveling northbound and attempted to overtake the tractor-trailer at a high rate of speed. Her car hit the left rear section of the trailer, and following the impact, rolled over several times.

Ms. Estep was ejected from her Chevrolet. The Troopers say she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 49-year old man who was driving the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident. As is required by state law regarding a crash, he will be tested for alcohol.

The highway patrol Troop D marked this as the 50th fatality for the year to date.
