St. Louis, MOA college basketball player was seriously injured in a Missouri car accident, reports the News-Leader.
According to the crash report released by the the Missouri Highway Patrol, Michael Porter, a sophomore on the Missouri State basketball team, lost control of his Nissan as he rounded a curve. The car went into a roll and the driver was ejected, seriously injuring his hip. The report revealed that Porter was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the car accident.
The head basketball coach at Missouri State, Cuonzo Martin, told the news source that Porter recently underwent successful surgery to repair the damaged hip.
"He's coherent and talking when he's not sedated," Martin said. "It's a true blessing that it was nothing more than his hip. There weren't any broken arms, wrists, knee or any head injuries."
The coach also indicated that Porter "has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but all things considered the doctors indicated he was very fortunate."
