A nearly fatal car accident involving a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro and a Ford F-150 truck sent one man to hospital Monday morning to undergo surgery. He was listed in critical condition.

The accident happened around 7:00 am at the intersection of I-70 Drive SE and Wester Lane east of Columbia. The Camaro, driven by 22-year old Keith Null, collided with the Ford pick-up, driven by 25-year old John M. Herman. Both men are reportedly members of the Boone County Fire Protection District, according to a Columbia Fire Department news release.

When fire crews from the Columbia Fire Department arrived at the scene of the accident they reportedly found Herman, the driver of the pick-up, providing aid to Null, who was trapped in his Camaro as a result of heavy damage to the driver-side door. Columbia Fire Battalion Chief James Weaver told the local media that it took 20 minutes to free Null from his car. Herman suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

Both the Columbia fire and Boone County Fire Protection District workers responded to the accident, and the scene was cleared around 9:30 am.
