Unum Insurance Puts out Guide on Healthcare Exchanges

. By Charles Benson

The Unum insurance group recently offered some information about health insurance exchanges, which will be a major part of the healthcare landscape once President Barack Obama's reforms go into effect in 2014.

Unum put out a guide called "Health Insurance Exchanges: A marketplace for the future," which is based on the requirements that are currently known about the Affordable Care Act, according to a press release. The exact requirements of the exchanges are not yet known.

"Health insurance exchanges are the subject of a lot of questions, and we think it's important to offer a clear explanation of how they're intended to work and how they have worked in places where they've been tried," said David Brenerman, vice president of Government Affairs for Unum. "Brokers and employers play a critical role in delivering benefits to millions of working people, and providing this information is one way we're trying to support our business partners."

It is hoped that these health insurance exchanges will increase the buying power of both individuals and small companies.
