FDA Solidly on the Fence with Regard to Troubled Endoscope Reprocessor

By Gordon Gibb.Washington, DC: It is turning into a saga worthy of reality TV: the on-again, off-again relationship between the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Custom Ultrasonics Inc. (Custom) over the manufacturer’s System 83 Plus automated endoscope cleaning systems. Many an Endoscope lawsuit has alleged that infection has been passed from one patient to another due to lack of success in completely eradicating bacteria and previous infection from reusable endoscopes.

Continued Fallout from Three-Year Delay to Recall Problematic Endoscopes

By Gordon Gibb.Washington, DC: One distinct ‘added value’ of any lawsuit, regardless of genre or subject matter, is the unearthing of useful documentation during the discovery process. Such has been the case with an Endoscope lawsuit filed earlier this year in a Pennsylvania court against Olympus Corp. (Olympus), the manufacturer of an allegedly problematic duodenoscope thought to be at the center of serious infections.
