$1Million Settlement Reached in Toxic Kiddie Kollege Day Care Lawsuit

Philadelphia, PA: An out of court settlement of $1 million has been reached between the parents of children who attended Kiddie Kollege Day Care in Gloucester County and the day care.

The lawsuit stemmed from allegations that the children attending the day care were exposed to toxins that could possibly lead to the development of health issues, because the day care stands on the site of an old thermometer factory.

According to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer, at the time the settlement was reached the trial had just begun, "to determine whether a fund should be established to provide medical monitoring for the nearly 100 children who inhaled mercury vapors at Kiddie Kollege. The vapors can cause neurological and kidney problems."

The trial is scheduled to continue Wednesday in order to decide whether several other parties, including state and local government agencies, should contribute to the fund, as the parents allege these agencies failed to prevent the daycare from opening on a contaminated site.
