Building Inspector Whistleblower

Mount Olive, NJ: (Nov-29-07) Jeffrey DelVecchio, former building inspector, brought a lawsuit against the township, alleging that he was wrongfully terminated from his position. In his lawsuit against the township, which was filed earlier in 2007, DelVecchio claimed he was fired in early 2006 in retaliation for bringing to light alleged construction violations at a Best Western hotel being built in Budd Lake. The suit named De La Roche, construction code official Gary Lindsay, and former business administrators Robert Casey and Rick Prill as defendants, seeking lost wages and compensatory damages from the township. The lawsuit was filed under the state's Conscientious Employee Protection Act, more commonly referred to as the whistleblower law. As part of a settlement reached, township council members agreed to a $130,000 out-of-court payment to resolve the wrongful termination lawsuit. [WARREN REPORTER: BUILDING INSPECTOR]
