Beaumont, TX: (Jul-26-07) Glenn McNeel brought a lawsuit against the city after he lost control of his motorcycle when the bike's tire struck elevated pavement, causing permanent damage to the vehicle. McNeel stated that on Oct. 17, 2003, he was traveling on the 4400 block of Washington Boulevard, west to Interstate 10 when he wrecked his bike. McNeel's lawsuit, filed in the Jefferson County District Court, also named the Texas Department of Transportation as defendant, asserting that it had a responsibility to maintain the roadway. The suit originally claimed compensation for physical pain, mental anguish, and medical expenses. In a settlement reached, Beaumont City Council agreed to pay McNeel $75,000.
