Hair Loss Not a Matter of ‘IF’ but ‘WEN’

While Wen Hair Loss Side Effects lawsuits continue to escalate in number, there could be many more in the pipeline over the ensuing months given the number of complainants. To that end, some 17,000 reports of hair loss in association with WEN hair care products prompted a House Democrat and the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to seek answers.

In fact, it was back in March of this year that Representative Frank Pallone Jr. (D-New Jersey) sent communications to both the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and WEN manufacturer Guthy-Renker LLC outlining his concerns over the issue. According to The Hill (03/09/16) hair loss, visible bald spots, hair breakage and scalp irritation have been reported in association with the use of WEN hair products, leading many plaintiffs to file a Wen Hair Loss lawsuit.

“Consumers deserve to know that they are making safe choices when they purchase cosmetics,” Pallone said in a news release issued in early March of this year. “Unfortunately, since popular cosmetics and personal care products are largely unregulated before they reach the marketplace, these products can contain harmful chemicals that have the potential to put consumers at risk.”

It has been reported that one consumer of WEN hair care products complained of ongoing hair loss some three weeks after discontinuing the products.

Pallone sent a letter of concern directly to the president and CEO of Guthy-Renker LLC, Georg Richter. On behalf of his constituents and consumers at large, Pallone is asking for documents related to product testing, timelines related to the manufacturer’s interactions and communications with the federal regulator, copies of commissioned assessments together with copies of memoranda and communications originating from the company related to potential Wen Hair Loss Side Effects and other safety issues.

The ranking House Democrat also wants answers as to whether, or not the FDA has been in a position to access safety records related to the product, the existence of inspection reports, and whether or not the FDA has sufficient authority to oversee WEN haircare products and if so, whether the FDA could trigger a WEN product recall. As Pallone suggested in his statement, certain products will often fall outside the jurisdiction of the federal regulator, such as products registered as a natural supplement.

WEN is a popular cleansing conditioner. Guthy-Renker LLC has denied the existence of any safety issues related to its product, in spite of ongoing complaints that date back as far as 2008, according to reports.
