Kansas Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A Shawnee, Kansas, man has been killed in a Kansas City motorcycle accident, according to the Kansas City Star.

The deceased man was 22-year-old Darren K. Wynn. The accident occurred the night of October 16th after Wynn lost control of his vehicle, a black Honda Sport motorcycle. He was traveling southbound on US Highway 69 near 151st Street in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, when his motorcycle drove over the embankment on the west side of the road.

According to the Overland Park Police Department, Wynn was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a report on traffic statistics in the state of Kansas in 2008, the Kansas Department of Transportation stated that there were 76,361 motorcycles registered in the state. The state saw 385 fatalities in 348 fatal accidents for the year. Drivers and passengers of motorcycles, motor scooters or mopeds totaled 45 fatalities during the time covered by the report. The report also stated that 39 percent of accidents occur at night, while 72 percent occur in areas where the road is straight and level, like the stretch of highway where Wynn's fatal accident occurred.
